I Walked Away for Less Than 5 Minutes & My Toddler Turned Into a Destructive Little Monster

Parents of toddlers know how curious they can be about the world around them. At times, their exploration and play can get messy – or even destructive. One mom experienced this firsthand when she left her 2-year-old toddler unsupervised for just a few minutes.

Mpho Rambuwani, 30, returned to her living room one day to find her brand-new couch covered in eczema cream.

Her son covered the entire couch with the cream.

The mom, who is from Johannesburg, South Africa, was shocked by the amount of damage her toddler, Murisa, was able to do in just a few minutes. Not only had he opened a tube of eczema cream, but he had also covered the whole couch in the cream. To make it even worse, Mpho had just purchased the couch, the New York Post reported.

'I found Murisa with the cream lathered all over the couch,' the mom described.

Because the toddler really rubbed the eczema cream into the couch, Mpho struggled to clean it. Luckily, the toddler’s destructive experiment didn’t destroy the family’s furniture, and they are still able to use it after Mpho spent hours removing the cream.

“I was furious – you could see the guilty look on his face,” Mpho said, per the Post. “He was so shocked I had caught him – he didn’t know what to do. I did manage to save the sofa but it took me so long.”

She shared how her toddler feels about what happened.

Given that the incident was so shocking, the mom took photos and recorded a video of the mess. Recently, she showed the video to her toddler, who simply said, “That’s me!”

Other parents have also dealt with destructive toddlers.

Mpho’s experience is not unique. On Reddit, many parents of toddlers have shared their horror stories.

“Today I had to go to the library and be honest about a book my toddler destroyed by … throwing it in the sink,” one parent wrote. “We had dishes soaking and the book got soaked.” The same person revealed that their toddler seemingly destroyed the family’s TV. They had to replace it, which cost them $900.

The parent asked other people to share what their toddlers have destroyed.

Other parents could relate. Many said their toddlers have destroyed numerous books. “I really want to start bringing home library books but I’m terrified because she’s such a book ripper,” one parent said of their toddler.

Other parents said they had to replace pricey items such as their TVs, glasses, or cosmetics because of their toddlers’ destructive tendencies.

“He has an uncanny ability to climb just everything and has gotten into my makeup recently,” one parent commented. “Before I knew it, he’s destroyed most of my lipsticks, palettes, and just about everything he can get his hands on.”
