‘Sister Wives’ Star Janelle Brown Explains Why Kody Wasn’t Invited to Daughter Savanah’s Graduation

Fans of Sister Wives have seen that Kody Brown‘s relationship with his adult children has been a complicated one over the last few years, to say the least. So it wasn’t all that surprising to find out that Savanah – one of the daughters he shares with ex-wife Janelle Brown – decided not to include him in her high school graduation ceremony on this week’s episode. But according to Janelle, it was much better this way.

Janelle threw a graduation party for Savanah on this week's episode of the show.

Most of the family was there, and the party was hosted at the home Janelle’s former sister wife Christine now shares with new husband David Woolley. But Kody and Robyn were noticeably missing from the gathering, and according to Janelle, they didn’t receive invites because Savanah doesn’t “really have much to do with them” anymore.

Kody seemed to agree it would have been awkward for him to be there.

In fact, on the show, he even admitted that he didn’t expect to receive an invitation in the first place. But he also admitted that he believed that if he was getting along better with his exes, he’d probably be in a better place in his relationship with Savanah at that point, too.

He also claimed his marriage to Robyn played a role.

“I’d like to be able to be part of Savanah’s life, but it’s like [they’re] in this collusion that seems to hate Robyn and I don’t know why,” Kody said on the episode. “Other than, well, they’re jealous.”

It’s true that Kody’s children haven’t tried to hide that they feel that Kody favors Robyn’s kids over them; viewers have heard the topic come up on more than one occasion on recent seasons of the show.

Jenelle set the record straight on the Robyn debate.

Janelle told the TLC cameras that even though Kody thinks he’d be invited to her family’s events if he agreed to show up without Robyn, that’s not actually the case.

“Kody is alienated from 90 to 95% of his children. He is not really wanted at events,” she said. “He’s not coming, regardless of who he brings or doesn’t bring with him.”

Savanah's relationship with her dad has been fractured for a long time.

In October, Janelle told E! News that even though Savanah is 19 years old and may be a long way off from getting married, she’s already decided her dad won’t be the one to walk her down the aisle. Instead, she would want to ask her brothers to do the honors for her.

If Kody wants to make his relationships with his kids right, there’s no better time than the present, or it appears this rift between them is just going to keep getting bigger.
