Jon Gosselin and his girlfriend of three years, Stephanie Lebo, are engaged. While two of Jon’s kids were happy when they found out about his plans to get married, he’s not sure how his ex-wife feels about his engagement news. TheĀ Jon & Kate Plus 8Ā alum was previously married to Kate Gosselin. They share eight children, though Jon currently only has a relationship with two of the former couple’s sextuplets: Collin and Hannah.

Jon isn't sure how Kate feels.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, journalist Rachel Smith asked Jon about his ex-wife’s reaction to his engagement news. Jon joked that Kate probably scoffed and said something like, “I can’t believe it!”
However, he didn’t seem too concerned about Kate’s opinion. “I have no idea,” he said. “I haven’t talked to her since 2018 and I wasn’t thinking of her when I was proposing to Steph.”
In fact, Kate’s opinion on the matter never crossed his mind. “I never thought about what she would think, so it was not even in my brain,” Jon said.
Hannah and Collin were supportive.
Before proposing to Stephanie, Jon talked to his kids Hannah and Collin, hoping that they would approve. According to him, Hannah was “crying” and “ecstatic” when he told her about his plans to propose. Collin was also supportive, Jon told Entertainment Tonight. “They were happy and thatās all that matters to me,” Jon said.Ā
When Jon’s now-fiancĆ©e shared the news on Instagram, his daughter Hannah commented on the post, writing, “YAYYYY!!!!!”

He didn't talk to his other kids about the proposal.
Given that Jon has been estranged from six of his children for years, he did not talk to them about his plans to marry Stephanie before he proposed.
While he didn’t share the news with them, he would still happily invite them to the wedding, he revealed. “I would definitely send an invite to all of them,” Jon said. “You know, they are my kids. It’d be nice for [Stephanie] to meet my other kids.”
'The door's always open,' he said.
Jon doesn’t currently have a relationship with his 24-year-old twins Mady and Cara, or with 20-year-old sextuplets Alexis, Aaden, Leah, and Joel. In the past, he has suggested that he doesn’t even have the ability to communicate with them.
While he shared his engagement news with Hannah and Collin because they are “integrated into the family,” he also said that “if other ones wake up and realize what’s going on, the door’s always open here.”
In 2023, Jon said he has 'no access' to six of his children.
In terms of why Jon is estranged from six of his children, Jon has said that he doesn’t actually know. On an episode of Vice TV’s Dark Side of the 2000sĀ in 2023, he said, “I have no access to the kids I’m estranged from. I have no idea why they stopped coming. I have no answers. Like, none. It’s the worst,” per People.
However, in 2016, Mady shared her side of the story with People. To her, the idea that “we’re being kept from [Jon]” seemed “insane.” “He should maybe spend some time thinking about why we don’t want to see him, and maybe realize that if he ever does want a relationship with us, talking about us on TV is not the way to make that happen,” she said at the time.
